Tom DiNapoli celebrated his come-from behind victory over Harry Wilson early Wednesday morning with a shout-out to his Long Island hometown.

"If there's a kid out there, perhaps sitting in one of my old seats at Mineola High School, that has dreams of public service and going into politics, I'd like them to reflect on this campaign, and to really understand that you don't always need a famous name and you don't always need to be rich," DiNapoli said in the wee hours at the Sheraton in Manhattan, after winning without the endorsement of governor-elect Andrew Cuomo.

"And this great state of New York that has always been so wonderful to my family, when my immigrant grandparents chose to put their roots down first in Brooklyn, and then moving out to Long Island where I continue to live. . .

"My story is a New York story. And it's a story of middle class everyday people. And I will never forget as I work hard each and every day that this is for the everyday people like me and my family that I"m doing this public service.

Thank you so much for what you've done!"
