WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is expected to attend the U.S. Open on Sunday, a White House official confirmed to Newsday on Friday.

Trump’s trip to Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows comes ahead of other reported sports outings in New York, including plans to attend a New York Yankees home game in the Bronx on Thursday, and the Ryder Cup golf tournament at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale later this month. The three-day tournament starts on Sept. 26.

The president is expected to attend Sunday’s men’s singles final at the Open.

Trump’s last U.S. Open appearance was in 2015, months after he launched his first presidential bid. He attended a women’s match with his wife, Melania, and was reportedly booed by attendees, according to media reports at the time.

In his second term, Trump has made the sporting rounds, attending the Super Bowl in February in New Orleans, the FIFA Club World Cup in July at MetLife Stadium and the UFC mixed martial arts championship at the Prudential Center in Newark in June.
