Howard J. Kopel, County Legislator, Seventh Legislative District
HOWARD J. KOPEL
Republican
BACKGROUND:
- Kopel, 70, of Lawrence, an attorney and the legislature’s deputy presiding officer, seeks a seventh term. He is also running on the Conservative Party line.
- He is the founder and chief executive of a title insurance and real estate services company.
- He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Brooklyn College and his law degree from Brooklyn Law School.
ISSUES:
- Kopel would establish budgets that contain "real world" projections and use funds strategically. Kopel said that would free up county funds for other purposes and save by reducing borrowing. He does not support using $100 million of the aid to send up to $375 to residents.
- He would address quality-of-life issues, especially the "overbuilding" in areas that already have high traffic.
- He calls for makeover of reassessment, citing the volume of complaints.
