DONOVAN G. CURREY

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Currey, 62, of Brentwood, is an accountant and a project quality manager for an electrical contracting company. He also owns an income tax preparation business. He is also running on the Working Families Party line.
  • He is third vice president of the Islip Town Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a member of the Holy Church of Christ in Central Islip.
  • Currey earned a bachelor’s degree in business and master’s degree in accounting from the University of Phoenix in Arizona.

ISSUES:

  • Currey says he would waive the application requirement for those eligible to receive a reduction on the town portion of the property tax bill and that homeowners will automatically receive the benefit once they reach 65.
  • He pledges to lobby Islip Town board members to control the tax rate. Currey says he plans to use his position as an elected official to speak on behalf of residents.
  • Currey promises to work to make a second council district competitive by lobbying Islip Town board members to be more equitable in how town leaders carve up the municipality into council districts.
