Barbara Jean Ianfolla, Council Member, Town of Shelter Island
BARBARA JEAN IANFOLLA
Unaffiliated
BACKGROUND:
- Ianfolla, 63, of Shelter Island Heights, is running on the Democratic line, seeking to fill the remaining two years of former council member Michael Bebon's term. He resigned in June. She previously served 10 years as a town assessor before retiring in 2018.
- She worked in the Shelter Island school district's business office doing purchasing and budget work and previously worked as a portfolio manager assistant on Wall Street.
- Ianfolla earned a master's degree from Brown University and a bachelor's degree from Stony Brook University, both in psychology.
ISSUES:
- While work on Shelter Island's Comprehensive Plan was suspended this summer after several task force resignations, she would try to update the data. "I think a comprehensive plan update goes hand-in-hand with a zoning update, which is necessary. We should at least get them started."
- Continue the island's deer and tick management program, culling the herd to reduce the deer population.
- Try to move more quickly to get some relief for the island's various water systems and discuss whether the town should invest in nitrate filters in some areas. Taxes always are a concern as well, she said. "Every decision has to consider the impact on taxes."
