BACKGROUND:

  • Walker, 70, of Hicksville, was elected to the Nassau County Legislature in 2009 and is seeking a seventh term. Walker is also running on the Conservative party line.
  • Walker has a bachelor of arts degree in education from Belmont Abbey/Sacred Heart College in Belmont, North Carolina. She worked as a teacher at St. Stephen’s Nursery School in Hicksville and as a teaching assistant for Hicksville Public schools.
  • Walker served on the Oyster Bay town council from 2004 to 2009 and was a Hicksville school board member from 1999 to 2001.

ISSUES:

  • Walker said she supports environmental protection and open space preservation. She supports downtown revitalization efforts.
  • Walker said that she is "an advocate for our most vulnerable populations, our veterans and health and safety issues that affect all our residents." During the COVID-19 pandemic she fought to bring testing and vaccination sites into local neighborhoods, procure masks for first responders and participated in food drives.
  • Walker said she will fight for tax relief, correcting errors in reassessment and opposing any county tax increase proposals.
