JOSEPH CAPOBIANCO

Republican

BACKGROUND:

  • Capobianco, 61, is an attorney who served on the city council for five years before losing reelection in 2019. He is also on the Conservative and Tax Revolt lines.
  • He served on the board of NuHealth, which operates the Nassau University Medical Center, and was on the board of managers for the Glen Cove YMCA.
  • He got a bachelor's in accounting at LIU's C.W. Post campus and his law degree at American University.

ISSUES:

  • Capobiaco would maintain taxes at a "reasonable level" by cutting wasteful spending and expanding the tax base with more businesses, including on the "underdeveloped" Sea Cliff Avenue. He touted his votes against busting the tax while he was councilman.
  • He wants the city to focus more on quality of life issues, including cracking down on illegal housing and enforcing the code against trash-strewn yards and other violations.
  • He plans to take a "hard look" at the building codes to make sure they are consistent and rational. He said his dog groomer had to go to the planning board for special permits to open a store, but a convenience store chain could have claimed its right to open without facing the same permitting issues.
