MICHAEL A. DELURY

Republican

BACKGROUND:

  • Delury, 62, is seeking a second term and has worked as treasurer of East Williston Village for almost 10 years. He is a member of the New York State Government Finance Officers Association. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Hofstra University and is also on the Conservative line.
  • He said he helped craft a debt management policy that the city council adopted to set standards for the use of bonds.
  • Delury said he was he instrumental in starting up the $369 million oceanfront development, including the city’s agreement on the annual property tax increase for the next 30 years, which helps the developer plan financing.

ISSUES:

  • Delury said the "fiscal straightening out" of the city is foremost on his mind. To raise revenue he backs more metered parking; naming rights, like Los Angeles’ Hollywood Stars Walk; and donations in return for memorial benches around Long Beach.
  • Bringing back the Army Corps of Engineers would be a priority so jetties can be improved and the Jones Beach Inlet dredged.
  • Further development on the bayfront would help Long Beach. He said would like to know what residents want on the vacant sections of the property where the Long Beach Medical Center sits, shuttered by Superstorm Sandy.
