Salary: $194,243
Duties: The sheriff runs two correctional facilities: Riverhead's medium- and maximum-security jail and Yaphank's minimum-security building. The sheriff oversees a $165.8 million annual budget and 1180 uniformed and civilian employees and manages a secure detention facility at the Cohalan Court Complex in Central Islip. Other duties include enforcing laws and civil judgments, such as eviction notices and orders of protection.
