BACKGROUND:

  • McKevitt, 50, of East Meadow, is seeking his third two-year term. McKevitt is also running on the Conservative party line. McKevitt represented New York State Assembly District 17 from 2006 to 2017, and was the Assembly’s minority leader pro tempore.
  • McKevitt earned a bachelor's degree in social sciences from Hofstra University and a law degree from Hofstra Law School. McKevitt also has practiced privately with law firms in Nassau County.
  • McKevitt served as a deputy town attorney for the Town of Hempstead from 1997 to 2001, and again from 2003 to 2006.

ISSUES:

  • McKevitt said that he will "continue to advocate for fairness and transparency in the reassessment process." He said he will continue to advocate for "correcting the errors that have affected hundreds of thousands of Nassau’s homeowners" that he said "have led to property tax increases for the majority of Nassau’s residents."
  • McKevitt said he will "continue to implement … drug take-backs, child car seat safety checks, memory screening in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Foundation, mammography screenings, senior flu shots, Narcan training" and other programs.
  • McKevitt said that he will support infrastructure projects "that help maintain, repair and repave county roads" in his district.
