BACKGROUND:

• McEvoy, 59, of South Hempstead, has been the varsity basketball coach at Island Trees High School in Levittown since 2013. He also is running on the Conservative line.
• He has a bachelor’s degree from Adelphi University in Garden City and a certificate of leadership in business from the University of Notre Dame
• McEvoy previously worked for Verizon and GEICO.

ISSUES:

• McEvoy, whose father was a police officer, said he will fight any efforts to defund local police
• He supports using the county budget surplus to deliver tax cuts for residents
• McEvoy said he would target COVID relief funds to revitalize downtown areas and help small businesses recover from the pandemic
