DENNIS J. WALSH

Republican

BACKGROUND:

  • Walsh, 71, of Mineola, has been a trustee on the Mineola Village Board in the past nine years. He’s also running on the Conservative Party line.
  • He was a New York City Police Department officer from 1971 to 1986 before retiring. He said he ran a house-painting business for about 25 years until he had hip replacement surgery in 2019.
  • He graduated from Mineola High School in 1968.

ISSUES:

  • Walsh said he would like to bring down taxes. "I believe that a great portion of their budget goes to pay down debt. They need to become a pay-as-you-go government more than the tax-borrow-and-spend government that they are today," he said.
  • He wants to improve the infrastructure — roads, sidewalks and gutters — in the hamlet of Garden City Park.
  • He said he will push to livestream the town’s work sessions and meetings on public access television and have reruns on a loop to increase government transparency.
