WAYNE H. WINK JR.

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Wink, 54, of Roslyn, has been the town clerk since 2013. He’s also running on the Common Sense line.
  • He was a North Hempstead Town Councilman from 2001 to 2007. Then he served as the Nassau County Legislator for the 11th District from 2007 to 2013.
  • Wink received a bachelor's degree in political science from Hofstra University and a Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University Law School.

ISSUES:

  • Wink said he will seek to improve the building department, which he said was difficult for residents to navigate and not transparent enough. He said he wants to explore pre-application meetings and expand the use of digital tools to streamline the approval process for homeowners and businessowners.
  • He said he will continue to encourage outdoor dining and build walkable downtowns. He also wants to facilitate zoning code changes to better reflect the needs of future retail businesses.
  • He will push to invest in infrastructure and the environment. He wants to rebuild the town dock, improve town parks and implement the revamping plan for North Hempstead Beach Park. He will promote climate smart initiatives, including making the roads more friendly to pedestrians and bike-riding. He’s in favor of switching those on septic tanks to sewer lines in places such as Manhasset.
