Robert Trotta, County Legislator, 13th Legislative District
ROBERT TROTTA
Republican
BACKGROUND:
- Trotta, 58, also is running on the Conservative and Libertarian party lines for a fifth term.
- He served 25 years in the Suffolk County Police Department and retired in 2013 at the rank of detective. He was named Cop of the Year in 1993 and Detective of the Year in 2001.
- He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University and a master’s degree from Stony Brook University.
ISSUES:
- His top issue is fighting corruption. Trotta has taken on his own union, the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association, and says it has inappropriately used members’ dues to fund political campaigns, including to politicians who negotiate police labor contracts.
- He says he has worked to end wasteful spending by the county and strives to make taxes affordable for parents and children to continue to live on Long Island.
- His priorities are safe neighborhoods, schools and parks and to protect those assets for the future.
