BACKGROUND:

  • Sanders, 53, of Greenport, is also running on the Conservative line. He is seeking his second term on the Board of Assessors. He also previously served as a Southold trustee.
  • A former real estate sales agent and broker, he has a master's degree in U.S. history from Norwich University, a master's in liberal studies from Stony Brook University and a bachelor's degree from Taylor University.
  • He is commander of American Legion Post 803 in Southold. As a member of the National Guard, he served two tours in Afghanistan and one at Guantanamo Bay. He is now a captain in the New York Army National Guard and was promoted in 2020 to command the Headquarters Detachment of the 53rd Troop Command, which is responsible for overseeing combat service support and combat support units across New York.
