Background:

  • Burke-Gonzalez, 59, of Springs, was first elected to the Town Board in 2013 and reelected in 2017. The Democratic councilwoman, who is also running on the Working Families Party line, is seeking a third term.
  • She worked to help increase mental health services for teens and form the town's Adolescent Mental Health and Substance Use Task Force.
  • She earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing and management from Siena College. Before joining the Town Board, she was a marketing and advertising executive for three decades.

Issues:

  • Burke-Gonzalez said she will work to protect the environment and address sea-level rise and coastal erosion.
  • She said she wants to improve wireless communication to fill coverage gaps throughout the town.
  • Burke-Gonzalez, who is on the town’s Senior Center Building Committee, said she will continue to work on developing and constructing a new senior center as the existing facility is more than 100 years old and inadequate in space.
