DELIA M. DERIGGI-WHITTON

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • DeRiggi-Whitton, 53, of Glen Cove, seeks a fifth term in the 11th District and is also running on the Conservative Party line. She sits on the county’s Coronavirus Economic Advisory Council.
  • She said she led the fight against settling with LIPA over its bid to cut its $24 million tax bill by 47% on the Glenwood Landing power plant and also helped get the state legislature’s approval for a Sea Cliff water district.
  • She graduated with a degree in psychology from Hofstra University.

ISSUES:

  • DeRiggi-Whitton wants to protect the aquifer by continuing to publicize a program that would grant up to $20,000 per household to replace conventional septic tanks with ones that reduce nitrogen.
  • She would work to break ground this year on multimillion-dollar "downtown streetscape" projects aimed at boosting business.
  • Most of Nassau’s $193 million in pandemic recovery aid this year is still available, so DeRiggi-Whitton said she wants to get the funds out.
