THOMAS F. NEELY

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Neely, 66, of Sag Harbor, served as the Town of Southampton’s transportation and traffic safety director for 16 years before retiring in April. He is also running on the Clean Water line.
  • Neely worked 17 years as Hampton Jitney vice president with duties including government relations, marketing and operations.
  • He graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in communications.

ISSUES:

  • Neely said he would evaluate the use of roundabouts to ease congestion and improve safety at some busy intersections on Montauk Highway in Water Mill and on County Road 39.
  • Neely said he would look at the town’s Complete Streets policy mandating that new road projects consider safety and convenient access for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
  • He would make investments to the town’s bicycle infrastructure, add 4-foot bike lanes on town roads where appropriate, re-stripe roads or widen the road shoulder, and install signs encouraging motorists and cyclists to share the road.
