• Murphy, 58, of St. James, is also running on the Conservative Party line. He did not respond to requests for an interview.
• Murphy started working for Smithtown in 2012 as deputy highway superintendent.
• He was appointed superintendent in 2015 after the previous superintendent resigned and won a 2016 election to fill the remainder of his predecessor's term. He was reelected in 2017.
