Vincent A. Puleo, Town Clerk, Town of Smithtown
VINCENT A. PULEO
Republican
BACKGROUND:
- Puleo, 67, of Nesconset, is seeking his fifth term as town clerk.
- He also runs a property management business in St. James and has served as a Nesconset fire commissioner since 1993.
- Puleo earned an associate degree in general studies from Suffolk County Community College.
ISSUES:
- Puleo has made digitization of municipal records and online access a hallmark of his work, he said. "We put in a records management system so a person doesn't have to go into the vault — they can retrieve it right from their computer, which saves time and effort," he said.
- One popular document — the town park and beach access pass, requested by 10,000 residents annually — will be available online starting next year, Puleo said.
- Puleo said he has won about $375,000 in grants to help fund his work, including one last year for $149,000 from New York State to digitize records for the town Building Department, Village of the Branch and Commack Fire Department.
