KEVIN J. MCCAFFREY

Republican

BACKGROUND:

  • McCaffrey, 67, of Lindenhurst, was first elected to the Suffolk Legislature in 2013 and before that had served on the Lindenhurst Village board of trustees for more than 20 years. He is also running on the Conservative Party line.
  • He has been president of Teamsters Local 707 since 2000.
  • He is a graduate of Berner High School in Massapequa and is a certified employee benefit specialist through the International Foundation of Employee Benefit plans and Wharton School of Business.

ISSUES:

  • McCaffrey said law and order remain a priority and pointed to his sponsorship of a bill prohibiting the harassment of police, firefighters and other public safety personnel.
  • He said he will continue to work to protect the Great South Bay from contaminants by pushing for expansion of the Southwest Sewer District to include more homes.
  • He would like to use the county’s CARES Act funding to pay down pension obligations not met in previous years and to provide more funding to departments short on workers, such as the county’s 911 operators.
