Yvette Aguiar, Supervisor, Town of Riverhead
YVETTE AGUIAR
Republican
BACKGROUND:
- Aguiar, 62, of Riverhead, is running for reelection to a second term. She retired as a sergeant in the NYPD Counterterrorism Division. She also is running on the Conservative Party line.
- She is an associate professor at the American Military University, based in Charles Town, West Virginia, teaching online classes.
- Aguiar earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in public administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York. She received a doctorate in business administration from Northcentral University, an online university.
ISSUES:
- If reelected, she pledges to continue working on revitalizing downtown. Aguiar says the town bought three properties and plans to demolish two of the three structures in October to make space for a town square.
- She said the town has applied for an additional $10 million in federal grants to help pay for the redevelopment.
- Aguiar promises to resume enforcing town codes once the moratorium on evictions issued during the pandemic is lifted in 2022 and that additional staff has been hired to address code complaints.
