STEVEN J. FLOTTERON

Republican

BACKGROUND:

  • Flotteron, 59, of Brightwaters, also is running on the Conservative Party line for his third two-year term, having first been elected to the county board in 2017. Before that, he served 12 years on the Islip Town Council.
  • He has run an insurance business for 30 years, based in Malverne.
  • On the county legislature, he serves on three committees: budget, public safety, and seniors and human services.

ISSUES:

  • Flotteron calls himself a fiscal conservative who is always working to reduce "overspending" and borrowing, as well as improve the county’s bond rating.
  • He said he looks for ways to tap into corporate giving and volunteerism to build programs rather than relying on government grants.
  • He says a major future priority will be following up on the Fire Island wastewater study to implement recommendations.
