PETER K. VAN SCOYOC

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Van Scoyoc, 62, of East Hampton is the incumbent supervisor and has served 21 years in town government.
  • He has been the supervisor since 2018 and before that spent six years as a councilman and 11 on other town land-use boards. He is also running on the Working Families Party line in the general election.
  • Before becoming supervisor, he owned a residential construction and renovation company and a seasonal charter fishing business.

ISSUES:

  • Van Scoyoc said he is running on his record of achievements, including the town’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and contaminated drinking water in Wainscott.
  • He said wants to create affordable housing opportunities and that more than 20 acres have been purchased for affordable housing.
  • He said environmental causes will continue to be a priority for the town, which has set a goal of meeting all the community’s energy needs through renewable sources by 2030. Part of that includes the installation of the first megawatt solar farm on a former town brush dump, solar panels on town buildings and recent legislation to restrict gas-powered leaf blowers during summer.
