KATE BROWNING

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Browning, 62, of Shirley, is running on the Democratic Party line in the general election.
  • She served as county legislator the 3rd Legislative District for 12 years, and is returning after a special-election loss to Timothy Mazzarella.
  • Browning currently serves as director of code enforcement for Babylon Town, a position she says she'll relinquish if she wins back her former seat.

ISSUES

  • Browning said completion of the new Forge River sewer project is a priority, particularly given her work in launching the project during her term.
  • She's also focused on the issue of recovery homes, making sure they are properly run and "by the right people," and that money from opioid settlements is used "to help the good providers stay in business."
  • Browning, whose husband is a former New York City detective, said she also continues to have a strong focus on public safety. "I know the needs of the district," she said. "I have a clear understanding of law enforcement and what's needed."
