Todd D. Kaminsky, Nassau County District Attorney

TODD D. KAMINSKY

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

• Kaminsky, 43, of Long Beach, is a New York State senator.
• He spent six years as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, working on public corruption cases including those of former State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada Jr. and former Rep. Michael Grimm. He also prosecuted gang leaders and gun traffickers.
• Kaminsky has served four terms in the senate, where he has worked on legislation to get 9/11 first-responder benefits, differently abled students to a pathway to a high school diploma, and changes to the state's bail reform law. As chairman of the Environmental Conservation Committee, he helped pass the first law making illegal dumping a felony.
• He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and New York University Law School.

ISSUES:

• Kaminsky vows to work with law enforcement to "combat gun violence by targeting the flow of illegal firearms." He says he will have a data-driven approach to pinpointing and addressing violent crime.
• If elected, he says he will prosecute public corruption cases involving both Democrats and Republicans.
• Kaminsky says he will focus on cybercrimes, to interrupt hacking and fraud scams against consumers and the elderly; opioid traffickers and dealers; crimes against animals; and make prosecution of environmental crimes a priority.
