JORGE C. GUADRON

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Guadron, 60, is owner of a small marketing and sales company. Previously, he worked in the restaurant industry and served as an assistant union representative for the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union, Local 100 in New York City.
  • He received a legacy award from the Islip Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People for outstanding work in the community.
  • Guadron earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Nyack College in New York City.

ISSUES:

  • Guardron pledges to find ways to grow the local economy and generate new revenue, which he says would help maintain property taxes at current levels. If elected, he says he would hold cultural events in places such as Robert Clemente Park in Brentwood and invite owners of small and micro businesses to come and offer their products and services.
  • To help businesses in downtown Islip, he proposes to occasionally close some public streets to traffic and host live bands, dances, and other cultural activities to draw visitors to the area.
  • Guadron would require developers who want to build new homes or rental units to set aside up to 50% of the development for workforce and affordable housing.
