Conservative Manhattan attorney Wendy Long will make her first public appearance in her campaign to defeat Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) when she speaks in Melville this Sunday at the convention of the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association.

The speech at the New York affiliate of the National Rifle Association will allow Long to draw a contrast between her support of gun rights with Schumer’s career-long campaign to regulate sales of firearms and ban assault-style weapons.

Long, who lost a race to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) in 2012, is running against Schumer on the Republican and Conservative lines.

Schumer has won the endorsement of the New York Democratic Party in his bid for a fourth term in the Senate.

Long said she will be speaking at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the association’s convention at the Long Island Hilton in Melville.

A previous version of this story misstated the date that Wendy Long ran against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
