Young 'Audobon ambassador' from Islip visits Rep. in D.C.

Olivia Bouler, Islip's 11-year-old artist-turned-lobbyist, wrapped up her three-day Capitol Hill circuit Wednesday with a trip to the House floor with Steve Israel.

She had already brought her clean energy policy pitch to two congressmen, an Obama adviser, two senators and the Interior Secretary. (As previously described, here).

When she arrived at Israel's office for her appointment Wednesday afternoon, he was running off to vote for an expansion of the federal government’s telework program. He whisked Olivia and her 6-year-old brother, Jackson, along.

Olivia--whose fundraising for birds affected by the BP oil spill tallies $165,000 and whose media appearances have included "People Magazine," "The Today Show," and CNN-- was introduced to Nancy Pelosi, who told the young Audubon ambassador she was familiar with her work.

Olivia launched a national campaign in February by offering hand-painted watercolors of birds to anyone who donated to the Audubon Society's relief efforts in the Gulf. Now galleries in New York and Texas are auctioning her work.

After pressing the button to vote on Israel's behalf, she headed back to his office for a chat, bumping into more fans on the steps of the Capitol, including Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA), who said he'd just seen her on MSNBC.
