Eighteen Long Island schools, mostly in Nassau County, will be delayed or closed Monday as a result of power issues stemming from the weekend nor'easter.

LIPA was in contact with school administrators throughout Sunday, a spokeswoman said, to update them on which schools would not have power restored by Monday.

On Monday morning, eight schools announced closings while 10 schools, including many the Massapequa School District, were delayed two hours. Earlier Sunday, 50 schools in at least 21 Long Island school districts were still without power, officials said.

The LIPA spokeswoman said Nassau schools affected were in the Baldwin, Bellmore, Franklin Square, Hempstead, Island Park, Long Beach, Merrick, Oceanside, Plainedge, Roosevelt, Seaford, Valley Stream, Wantagh and West Hempstead districts.

Suffolk schools affected were in the Brentwood, Copiague, East Islip, Hauppauge, Islip, Sayville, South Country and Smithtown districts.
