Monday is Presidents' Day, a federal holiday, the third of 11 national holidays so far in 2026. Here’s what’s open, and what’s closed on Long Island.

Government and schools:

Government buildings, including state, county and town offices, post offices, courts and schools are closed.

Banks and financial markets:

Major banks, including Chase, Capital One, Bank of America and Citibank will be closed. The financial markets, including the New York Stock Exchange, and the bond markets, will be closed.

Shipping Services:

UPS pickup and delivery services operate normally on Monday and UPS Stores will be open.

FedEx pickup and delivery services are also operating as usual, with FedEx Office locations open.

Retailers:

Almost all retailers, large and small, will be open, with many promoting Presidents Day sales. They include Macy’s, Walmart, Kohls, Costco, and Target. Drugstore chains like CVS and Walgreens are open; the pharmacies at these stores could have limited hours.

Grocery and convenience stores, restaurants and gas stations are generally open.

Mass transit

The Long Island Rail Road is running on a weekend schedule Monday. However, westbound trains on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches are skipping stops at Elmont-UBS Arena, Queens Village and Hollis due to planned signal upgrades through Tuesday.

The New York City subway and most buses will run on a Saturday schedule

Next three-day weekend:

The next federal holiday in 2026 is Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.
