Rain keeps up, but flood watch is lifted
The National Weather Service lifted its flood watch for Long Island at 4 p.m. Tuesday, although rain was expected to continue.
"We're no longer expecting the type of heavy rainfall that would call for a flood watch," said David Stark, a meteorologist the weather service in Upton. "We do expect the rainfall to persist, but it should be moderate."
A flood watch continued for southern Connecticut, northeastern New Jersey and counties just north of New York City.
The wet weather is likely to linger for the rest of the week, the service said. The chance of precipitation Tuesday night is 100 percent, with rainfall amounts predicted to be less than one-10th of an inch.
Rain was predicted likely before noon Wednesday and showers were likely later Wednesday and into Thursday, the weather service said. Friday was expected to be partly sunny, but showers could return Friday night and Saturday.
Cloudy skies were expected Saturday and Sunday.
There was also "a high risk of rip currents on all Atlantic Ocean-facing beaches through Wednesday evening," said meteorologist Lauren Nash of the National Weather Service in Upton.
