The torrential rain pouring on New York City and Nassau County is expected to continue for several hours.

Some scattered but relatively small batches of heavy rain also are working their way north toward western Suffolk County. There’s a chance most of the heavy rainfall could remain inland, perhaps sparing the eastern portion of Suffolk County.

The rain should remain steady until after midnight Sunday. Rainfall totals are expected to be about an inch in most places on the western half of Long Island. No flood watches or warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will remain mild, in the mid-40s Sunday night. Winds will pick up at 15-25 mph, with gusts in excess of 30 mph.

The rain will taper off Sunday night well after midnight. Long Islanders can expect mainly cloudy skies and a few showers through Monday morning.

After that, skies will clear up and it will be mostly sunny Monday afternoon. Temperatures will be about average for this time of year, in the low to mid-40s.
