Regina Calcaterra moves to Manhattan law firm

Regina Calcaterra, one-time chief deputy to Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and former executive director of the short-lived Moreland Commission on public corruption, has left state government and joined a Manhattan law firm.

Calcaterra is a senior partner in the law firm of Wolf, Haldenstein, Adler, Freeman & Herz, according to the firm’s website.

Until May, Calcaterra had been a $181,365 a year deputy general counsel to the New York State Insurance Fund.

Calcaterra, who lives in Brooklyn during the week and in New Suffolk on weekends, said when she joined the Bellone administration she did not expect to remain in government for as long as the 4 ½ years she spent in Suffolk and with the state.

Calcaterra, who turns 50 this week, said she joined the law firm, where she primarily is doing mainly securities litigation, in part so she would have flexibility to promote her new book, “Girl Unbroken,” which came out last month. It is a sequel to a memoir, “Etched in the Sand,” about her abusive childhood.
