Republican Demos touts $2.1M for House run
GOP congressional candidate George Demos last week announced he has $2.1 million in his campaign fund, with $200,000 of it from 250 individual donors in the past three months.
Campaign manager Kevin Tschirhart said Demos provided a $1 million loan on top of another $1 million he and his wife put in last October. Demos will likely face State Sen. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) in a primary to oppose Rep. Timothy Bishop (D-Southampton).
Zeldin, backed by much of the Republican and Conservative establishment, declined to divulge numbers before a Jan. 31 filing but said he'll have the resources needed. Edward Cox, state GOP chairman, said, "Demos is committing political malpractice by interfering with Long Islanders' best shot" against Bishop.-- Rick Brand
