Rip current risk, small craft advisory for Long Island's ocean waters
A high risk of rip currents remains for Long Island's ocean beaches for a second consecutive day, the National Weather Service said Tuesday in its marine report.
The service's Upton office issued a rip current advisory that runs to 9 p.m. Tuesday and includes the beaches of New York City.
Surf heights of 4 to 6 feet are expected, along with morning rain and strong southwest winds, prompting the service to issue a small-craft advisory for the South Shore.
The advisory runs to the evening hours and covers Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point; Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet; and Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to Fire Island Inlet.
