A broken signal delayed three Long Island Rail Road trains Monday night, railroad officials said.

The signal problem, just west of the Smithtown station, occurred about 7:30 p.m. Two eastbound trains -- the 5:52 out of Long Island City and the 6:30 from Hunters Point -- were held in stations, as was a westbound 6:49 out of Stony Brook.

Trains were delayed up to an hour eastbound and about a half-hour westbound while repairs were made, the LIRR said.
