A single-engine plane that took off from Long Island MacArthur Airport on Monday evening with two people on board later crashed in the Hudson River north of upstate New Windsor, according to a spokesperson for the Town of Islip.

The pilot of the Cessna 172 and a passenger survived the crash with injuries not considered life-threatening, said Caroline Smith, the town spokesperson, in an email to Newsday.

Islip owns MacArthur Airport.

Smith did not provide the identities of the pilot and passenger or the time of the crash.

In a Facebook post, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus said first responders answered a distress call regarding a small aircraft’s "emergency landing in the Hudson River."

"At this time, we can report that all occupants have been recovered alive and are being treated at a local hospital and are expected to make a full recovery," Neuhaus said. "We are so proud of all the first responders that were part of this successful rescue."

New York State Police from Troop F, headquartered in upstate Middletown, responded to the crash. Late Monday in an email, Trooper Jennifer Alvarez said: "We are still investigating, and more information will be released as it becomes available."
