Small craft advisory for eastern Long Island ocean waters, National Weather Service says

A small-craft advisory is in effect for Long Island's eastern ocean waters, the National Weather Service said Monday in its marine forecast.

The advisory runs from 8 a.m. Monday through the evening hours and covers Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point, extending 20 nautical miles offshore from the affected areas, the service's Upton office said.

A warm front approaching Nassau and Suffolk counties Monday followed by a cold front passing south is partly responsible for the rain and some of the conditions, the service said.

Southeast winds could approach 25 knots and wave heights of 5 feet are possible.

All other waters are expected to remain below small-craft advisory levels through Monday night, the service said.

Inland weather Monday for Long Island calls for on-again, off-again rain with the potential for some stretches of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Temperatures range from the mid 70s and upward, with southeast winds from 8 to 14 mph.
