Smithsonian accepts portrait of former pilot from Long Island

The late Eastern Airlines pilot William Piechota trained Army Air Corps pilots for combat missions during World War II, after learning to fly on Long Island. His sons have donated a portrait painted by their late mother of her husband in uniform to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
