Long Islanders are being hit with strong winds on Mother's Day, after windy conditions Saturday night left some without power.
As of noon, LIPA said 5,492 customers were without power, with most of the outages reported in Hempstead, North Hempstead, Oyster Bay, Brookhaven and Huntington.
Wind advisories are in effect for Long Island, New York City and the rest of the tri-state area, the National Weather Service said.
Now expected to last until Sunday at 6 p.m., the advisory says the area will see westerly winds of up to 35 mph and gusts up to 50.
Don't park under trees if possible and secure objects that could blow away, the weather service suggests.
"Winds this strong can make driving difficult," the advisory says.
All that wind brings lower temperatures, with forecast highs in the mid-50s Sunday and lows in the 30s. Temps Monday may rise into the lower 60s.
