To allow for the removal of scaffolding used during bridge maintenance repair work, Southern State Parkway travel lanes in certain areas are to be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. or 6 a.m., starting Sunday for about a one-week period, the state Department of Transportation said.

Two eastbound lanes in Nassau County will be closed between the Meadowbrook Parkway, Exit 22, and Wantagh Parkway, Exit 27, with the westbound lanes closed between Wantagh Avenue, Exit 28, and Merrick Road, Exit 24, the DOT said.

In Suffolk, two eastbound lanes from Wellwood Avenue, Exit 35, to Belmont Avenue, Exit 37, will be closed, as will westbound lanes from Deer Park Avenue, Exit 39, to Straight Path, Exit 36.

Motorists can expect delays or take alternative routes, such as Sunrise Highway, the DOT said.
