Monitored plane from MacArthur lands safely in Baltimore, FAA says
A Southwest Airlines passenger plane that departed from Long Island MacArthur airport landed safely in Baltimore Tuesday afternoon after the aircraft was monitored in-flight due to a call to police from a concerned citizen, officials said.
No emergency was declared and officials monitored the aircraft, Shelley LaRose-Arken, Commissioner of Aviation for MacArthur Airport said Tuesday. She did not have details regarding the concerned citizen’s call to Suffolk police.
FAA spokesman Rick Breitenfeldt said in an email that Southwest Airlines flight 1118 landed safely at Baltimore-Washington International Airport at 3:34 p.m.
“Southwest Airlines notified the FAA that their mechanics inspected the aircraft upon landing in Baltimore and found no problems,” Breitenfeldt said.
A Southwest Airlines spokesman emailed a statement saying: “Following an account on Tuesday afternoon of someone spotting something falling from an aircraft departing MacArthur Airport on Long Island, we identified the flight in question and had Mechanics inspect the aircraft after its routine flight and uneventful landing...They found nothing out of the ordinary.”
