A potentially rainy, raw and windy Saturday on Long Island may not be bringing choice conditions for viewing fall foliage.

Sunday, though, looking to be breezy but sunny, sounds more encouraging for leaf-peeping, with trees on the Island expected to be at the midpoint of their transformation from summer’s greens to the brighter shades of autumn.

That’s according to the weekly Fall Foliage Report, issued on Wednesdays by the state of New York, with an eye to the week ahead.

A look at the report’s accompanying map at ILoveNY.com shows most of the state to be in peak, near peak or past peak conditions, with Long Island at near-peak and New York City considered to be just changing.

For the weekend, spotters in East Meadow and Riverhead are predicting a 60 percent color change for Nassau County — make that 40 percent for Suffolk — featuring “yellow, orange, red, purple and green leaves of average brilliance.”
