Long Islanders can look forward to a great summer Sunday with highs in the lower 80s and plenty of sunshine, but there will be a risk of rip currents at the beach, and forecasters say wet weather is expected to move in Monday and Tuesday.

"On Sunday there'll be a good deal of sunshine, but we do have a moderate risk of rip currents," said Jay Engle, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service at Upton.

Lows Sunday night will be in the mid-60s.

Monday will be sunny for much of the day with highs in the lower 80s but there will be a 50-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms at night when temperatures will drop to the upper 60s.

Tuesday will bring with it another chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon, and the rain could be heavy at times and highs will be in the upper 70s. Nighttime lows will be in the upper 60s.

"The sun will be back again on Wednesday," when highs will be in the low to mid-80s Engle said, and it will be a dry day. Lows will be in the mid-60s.

Thursday will be sunny and clear with highs in the low 80s and lows at night will dip into the mid-60s.

On Friday get ready for a nice beginning for the weekend. It will be sunny with highs reaching the mid 80s and lows at night will be in the mid- to upper 60s.
