The mild rain that slowed traffic Friday morning was expected to taper off by the afternoon, and the Island may even see sunshine, according to Tim Morrin at the National Weather Service.

The East End may be clipped by a storm brewing over the ocean, including some thunderstorms.

Four accidents - one on the Long Island Expressway and three on the Southern State - snarled traffic Friday morning. One on the Southern State Parkway westbound, by exits 32 and 33, another by exits 17-18, and one on the LIE near exit 18 westbound were resolved by 8:13 p.m. Police also responded to another accident near exit 32 westbound on Southern State Parkway that involved several vehicles.

The weekend looks to be dry and sunny with normal temperatures - a high of 55 to 60 degrees.
