A "suspicious package" discovered near a mailbox in North Babylon early Monday proved not to be so suspicious after all, police said.

It was some sort of medical device being returned to the company that had delivered it - and the returnee left it alongside the mailbox.

Suffolk County police said the package was reported at 7:15 a.m. after being discovered by a crossing guard next to a mailbox at the intersection of Hughes Lane and Miller Avenue. Emergency services officers were sent to the scene.

Police said the package was X-rayed - and those X-rays revealed the undisclosed "medical device" in the case. A subsequent investigation revealed it was merely a shipment being returned.
