A signal problem and a mechanical problem with one train caused delays on the Montauk branch of the Long Island Rail Road late Friday morning, the railroad reported.

The eastbound 11:19 a.m. train from Babylon, due in Patchogue at 11:49 a.m. was canceled due to equipment trouble, and about 100 passengers on that train would be placed on the following train, spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said.

Signal trouble caused delays on three westbound trains: the 10:05 a.m. from Speonk, the 11:24 a.m. from Patchogue and the 11:59 a.m. from Babylon, the spokeswoman said.

The railroad is operating on a holiday schedule for the Fourth of July.
