LIRR: Trains on or close to schedule after switching problems
The LIRR is operating on or close to schedule with scattered residual delays following earlier switch trouble at Penn Station, the railroad tweeted.
Several earlier Long Island Rail Road trains were canceled or delayed during the evening rush Wednesday because of switching trouble at Penn Station.
There had been eastbound delays of up to 20 minutes on trains heading out of Penn Station, the LIRR tweeted at about 6:40 p.m. and several trains bound for Babylon, Huntington and Port Washington out of Penn were canceled, according to the LIRR's Twitter feed. The delays started about 6:15 p.m.
LIRR spokesman Salvatore Arena said crews were busy working on the electrical problem that occurred west of Jamaica before the tunnels, and said he didn't expect the delays to last through the night.
"They're working on it," Arena said. "There were some cancellations and combinations just to reduce the number of trains that needed to go through, but I know they're working on it right now."
