A 17-year-old girl suffered minor injuries and a home was significantly damaged after a 2025 Tesla the teen was driving left the roadway, crashing into a residence Sunday evening in Jericho, police said.
Police said two occupants of the residence were home at the time, but were not injured. However, police said a subsequent assessment of the damage by an inspector from the Town of Oyster Bay Building Department determined the home was "structurally unsafe."
The teen was westbound on Orange Drive in her 2025 Tesla when she left the roadway at the T-shaped intersection of Orange Drive and Onondaga at about 9:40 p.m. and crashed into the home, police said. The teen, whose identity was not released, suffered "a minor injury" in the crash, according to police, but refused medical attention.
Video from the scene showed firefighters removing trees and shrubs the car had crashed through, and pulling the vehicle from the spot where it hit the home next to a brick chimney. There also appeared to be a gaping hole in the side of the home.
Town of Oyster Bay spokeswoman Marta Kane told Newsday the damage to the home appeared to be "both structural and electrical," and the residents were asked to temporarily relocate "until necessary repairs can be made."
She said the town is waiting for a structural engineer or architect brought in by the homeowners to assess the situation further, adding "the town will expedite any permits needed to get them back into the home."
